GAITHERSBURG, Md. (March 17) — Against the backdrop of the 23rd Annual Gaithersburg St. Patrick’s Day Parade, City Council Member Jim McNulty announced his bid for a second term on the Gaithersburg City Council.
“Four years ago, you trusted me to bring a new voice to the Gaithersburg City Council,” McNulty said in a video he posted on social media. “I’m proud of what we have accomplished over these four years, but there is much work still to be done.”
McNulty (51) was elected to the Gaithersburg City Council in November of 2021. During his time on the council, McNulty has been an advocate for economic development, public safety, and fiscal responsibility. He was an active voice during the discussions surrounding the Lakeforest Mall Redevelopment, pushing for enhancements to the Schematic Development Plan (SDP) to increase the benefit to the public. The Council approved the Lakeforest SDP in September of 2024, with demolition tentatively scheduled to begin this year. McNulty also introduced legislation to require Radon testing in multifamily dwellings in the city.
Council Member McNulty is currently the Council liaison to the Cultural Arts Advisory Committee and the Olde Towne Advisory Committee, a committee he chaired prior to his election. He is also the only elected member of the Gaithersburg municipal government who lives east of I-270.
Gaithersburg municipal leaders are considered part-time, with most holding full-time jobs. McNulty recently joined Keller Williams Capital Properties in Rockville as a Realtor, following a 25-year career in television marketing and advertising—including positions with NBC4, Discovery Communications and Lockheed Martin Corporation.
